Chesapeake Photography features the environmental and cultural exploration of the Chesapeake Bay and coastal culture around the world; natural beauty as well as historical documentation of a landscape that will be irrevocably changed in the wake of global warming and sea level rise.
As a professional editorial photographer, it’s my mission to tell the story of the people and wildlife that make their living on the shifting edge of land and water. I’ve lived on or near the bay my entire lifetime. I’ve seen drastic decline in the bay’s crab and oyster populations, as well as the grasses where so many species start their lives. I’ve seen invasive species gain footholds and take over fragile areas, but I’ve also seen smart environmental policy that has brought threatened and endangered species back from the brink.
It is my goal to show the world the beauty that should be saved and preserve a sense of things that will be lost. Through stock photography, fine art prints, magazine articles, video, and the web, I hope to take people to the areas that are special, important, and fragile. I hope to tell the stories of the watermen and farmers whose way of life will be lost. I hope to help protect and preserve critical areas that cannot fend for themselves.
